We are confident that our study has yielded a scientific theory concerning the content and methods of child discipline. This theory seems to deal more effectively with many problems that traditional theories have failed to solve.\nBy applying Piaget’s cognitive developmental theory to all aspects of child discipline, we conclude that there are four different content areas of discipline. They are what we tentatively call “habit”(basic living activities), “manner”(social living activities), “rule”(social rules),and “moral”(logical rules),It also became clear that we have to change the approaches to discipline according to the differences in each content area.\nWe asked 109 mothers who had 5-year-old children to answer a questionnaire on how they disciplined their children in each of 16 situations. The results of the study indicates that the mothers un. consciously disciplined their children in four different approaches.\nThese findings seem to confirm the validity of our
