Its land area is about 75 percent mountainous, with a small amount of productive land area, yet it is considered one of the most innovative countries in the world. Despite its recent global technological innovations, it faces a population crisis. In the next 20 years or so, it is expected that about one percent of the Japanese population will be centenarians. This aging population creates many challenges for its political leaders and business managers, but also provides many opportunities for the foreign investor. An executive summary will be provided, outlining the background of the issues surrounding such an undertaking, with a summary of the results, conclusion and recommendations.
